People around this area don't tend to receive greetings cards that were posted to them using Royal Mail. I suspect that somewhere along the route birthday cards are intercepted and opened by post staff... it's fairly obvious when a 'letter' is a greetings card and greetings cards sometimes contain money. Most likely the post man. I would never post money but its happened when mum has done it several times over the last few years, not just around Christmas time but for random birthday dates too. Told her not to do it after the first time it happened. I strongly suspect that if mum had sent normal letters instead of what was quite obviously greeting cards the people she sent them to would have received them.

Neighbour doesn't like birds in case they poo on his BMW140 or his bike.

So I was surprised a few years ago when he had a duck pond / bird bath / bird drinking point installed on top of his kitchen extension. There's always more than an inch of water on the flat roof.

At the moment doves are enjoying a bath.

I distinctly remember being at primary school and the headmaster telling all of us (kids) about magpies during assembly, how there used to be loads of them around here and you'd see them everyday but we never saw any of them anymore. He was right, I don't think I ever saw one as a kid. He showed us a picture of them, they looked like something we'd expect to see in a jungle not around these parts, I'm not sure we fully believed him. Starting around the late 70s we started to see them and by the mid 80s they seemed to be as common as sparrows.

Yes, I can't stand them for much the same reason.
Birds are irritating, overrated things. Pointless things. I can't even stand 'bird song', which is basically screechy din.
So yeah, I can't stand them.
I ask myself the question: What exactly will birds do for me, positively, this year? Or any year. Jack all. Irritating, pointless species.

Funny you should say that, despite the current hype, every oap’s roof on our street has been clear of ice during the cold spell, don’t know what they’re doing mine was frozen solid

They're all on pension credit, get the fuel allowance, hence can afford to put the heating on
 
I had a discussion with a neighbour today about the merits of birds. Although he likeds them, he couldn't give a single reason why, other than 'they're cute'. I asked what, by 31st Dec, birds will have done for him, and he struggled to give specifics.
I argued form the other side, saying how annoying and pointless they are.

I’m sure their point is answered by the eco system, can’t say I know the ins and outs though.
You can’t just claim annoying and pointless because the same can be said for all living things, from insects and animals to humans.

So you can’t get rid of something just because they are annoying and pointless otherwise there would be nothing left!!
 
Some birds admittedly can’t be annoying but without birds we wouldn’t have half the plant life we see today
We also wouldn’t have had anything to stick in my grandparents old cage and shout obscenities to, apart from my grandad anyway

A frozen roof should show a well insulated roof, I.e. no heat escaping. A unfrozen roof indicates heat escaping, poor insulation
