Supposing you couldn't be arsed to refuel with LPG from a bottle at home and you couldn't buy petrol or diesel from a forecourt, how much will your electric sports car of the future weigh?

BTW I only keep one red bottle at home and it's a red propane bottle not a set of multiple acetylene or oxygen bottles. I don't have to move it around the delivery guy puts it where I want and collects the empty from where he leaves it.

My wife’s Christmas present weighs 2 1/2 tonne, it will do 0to60 in just over 6 seconds, and a full charge will return 260miles.

The last full charge cost £9.60 some how it knows when the tariff is at its cheapest and charges then.

It has loads of gizmos that I don’t use, mainly controlled by an app on her iPhone.

Not sure if the low off-peak prices for electricity will be able to continue when more people are charging EVs at various times of the day? E.g. If it's cheap now at 3am what happens if several times the number of EVers who currently charge at 3am decide to charge at 3am... If everyone balances out the grid load there becomes no off-peak time charges. It's good for now (when there is off peak time charging) but still not a money saver due to the £46k price tag.

I know EVs accelerate fast, which kind of makes them sporty in that way... MX5s are hardly the fastest cars on the roads but they're lightweight with chuckable handling and in that respect are more sporty than something that weighs 2500kg (500kg more than an Elgrand). Jas wouldn't have a Z4 because it weighs 1500kg which is 500kg less than the Elgrand when the MX5 weighs only around 1000kg.. The electric Golf weighs 2.5x more than the MX5. Not sure which if any electric vehicle compares favourably in terms of weight with its ice engined former self or what electric vehicle would give anything like the same driving experience as the MX5, the new electric Ford Capri is granted bigger than the old Capri but weighs twice as much as the old Capri 2.8i.

Just to add - it won’t return 260 miles to a charge if you launch it at every opportunity, more like180 miles.

Worth it though, until it blows up or the novelty wears off.

Yes, the EV's I tried thus far (3 of them) have done nothing for me. A one trick pony of acceleration, and proper heavy feeing after being used to lighter cars (Elgrand withside of course, but a van handles totally different of course than a 'normal' car). I'd go further and add an automatic and auto handbrake takes much of it away from me too. The handbrake not so much in terms of interaction, more annoyance. In fact, about 18 months ago I had a decent drive in a friend's Volvo EV thing. Did nothing for me. Social skills etc i said its alright, but not my thing, but straight afterwards, I went for a spin up twisites in my MX-5 and it was almost religious experience in comparison. Throttle blips on downshifts, lightweight nose tucking in around corners etc.
Still though, if electric *is* the thing for the next 30 years (who knows if that will pan out, as making the masses completely change by de facto force isn't historically always a good decision), then I'll have to get one sometime.

Lightweight, involving, manual transmission. Personally I don't think there can be an EV sports car, but that's just my own definition.

I do like this though. A KONA N. Now discontinued. Climate heads. Saw a knockout one in 'Performance Blue' parked up in a Trago Mills car park on Thursday. Always had a thing for it. Very rare.
I took this in March 2022 at a Hyundai place, while my MX5 was getting serviced in Mazda, 5 mins away.

‘Volkswagen Group experienced a data breach last month, exposing sensitive personal information of roughly 800,000 electrical vehicle owners across its brands, including Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, and Skoda.

Initially reported by German publication Speigel, the breach has been attributed to an Amazon cloud storage system misconfiguration, which is managed by software subsidiary Cariad. The group reportedly left personal and location data openly accessible online for months on end, prompting the breach.

The anonymous hacker who discovered the breach reported it to Chaos Computer Club (CCC), a well known organization of ethical hackers in Europe. The CCC tested the open, insecure access before informing Cariad and Volkswagen.

The data exposed in the breach includes vehicle location information such as when EVs were switched on and off, along with location data, email addresses, phone numbers, and home addresses of car owners’.

If ‘someone’ drove this car to say a secluded B&Q car park and let’s say they got passionate with someone other than the owner of the car….would the app snitch to the owner ?

There's likely a microphone built in as there is in other devices. Anything app controlled can hear what you're up to. Someone apparently found a mic in a Chinese air fryer.

We are mostly dinosaurs, we have lived in the great age of petrol, the great beige age of electric is coming like it or not, kids that grow up with it will know no difference.

I have no issues with electric as a propulsion system and it will get better, I do like ice also, hopefully retirement willing we will be able to keep something petrol and the motorbike and run an electric thing around town....

He was last seen volting the victims fence, he has been described as alive and dangerous, residents have been told not to be shocked but if he is seen report to your local power station so we can charge him with assault and battery then place him in a dura Cell.
