'Private number plates are chavvy and pointless'
Discuss.
Between us my wife and I have 3 cars all with personal plates which all mean something to us and have been on a number of our cars over quite a few years.
I enjoy modifying and personalizing my cars and I think that a personal plate is a great way to help in this.
Quite apart from anything else I find it quite handy as I know all the registrations by heart which would not be the case if each time we changed car I had to try to remember a new number
We have had these plates on some quite high value cars over the years including Porches, Mercs and BMW's.
None of the plates that we have now are specific car related although quite a few years back I did buy a couple that were and when I sold the cars done quite well out of selling the plates making a decent profit over what I had paid for them.
The SL55 AMG on the far right is mine KF53 FLY (picture taken at a AMG Private Lounge Club meeting)
This plate has been on several of my cars including a Porsche 911 and a Merc CLS AMG shooting brake.
It is relevant to me in that the KF are my initials and the 53 is the year I was born and the FLY is self explanatory as we have had for a number of years at least one fast car that this plate goes on.
The personal plate on my Elgrand.
I bought this plate when I bought my Elgrand in 2019 as I wanted a shorty plate to fit on the back so that I did not have to fit a square number plate.
The cost of this plate was actually less than what I sold the personal plate that had come on my AMG when I bought it which meant nothing to me.
The KRF are my full initials and the G for grand which is what we call our Elgrand
Our other personal plate is on my wife's BMW650I and is a combination of her day and date of birth plus initials
I do not think that these plates look at all chavy and in my opinion add a bit more personalization while still being pretty low key.
From your more recent posts it seems to me that you feel that anybody with a personal plate is a chav with a boomy exhaust who drives irresponsibility.
In my personal experience this is the complete opposite of the truth and that by far the majority of people who buy and fit personal plates do so on well looked and more high end cars and have nothing to prove.
In my opinion the chav is much more likely to be an owner of a slightly warmed up Ford, Audi or VW hatchback who think they have a fast car rather than someone with a personal plate and over the years I have had many of these reving there engines next to me at traffic lights but have never bothered to waste the fuel just to prove a point.
