Well, the opposite of wtf, but my MX-5 is finally done (well, once it went in it was only Monday to today), after you might recall that f-er who rear ended me on his phone 11 weeks ago. And they've done a cracking job. A1. Match is fantastic. Seriously looks the same. I gave him a big hug. Lots of TLC with it too- tucking up nice inside so it didn't get wet, and with the half cover on too, sent me photos of it. Good job I hung on for the Mazda approved place.

I asked him about wax/sealant on new paint and he said to keep away from sealant for a good few months, but normal wax is okay. You read many opinions on this on the internet. I think he thinks of sealant in terms of ceramic coating etc.
Anyway, I'm not going to put anything on it until the new year, then put on a coat of poorboys Natty paste wax. About April time I'll put on Finishcare high temp paste wax (which I reckon is a sealant)

That's what I read, yes.


Saying that though, back in '15 I scraped the side of a car on the wall pillar of my drive. The guy who did it did a phenomenal job, and when he rang to say it's ready, he said he was just waxing it. And if I recall, I then waxed it myself pretty much as soon as I got it too. Had it 3 years then before selling it and was still as good as the day it was done!

It is, and it's of course health and safety on steroids.......but it came into fruition due to the claims culture

So for once I''m erring on the side of institutions/companys, and think institutions close/play safe as citizen Smith 'accidentally' falls over and does a no win-no fee claim.

My north and south issues raised their head again today, watching the news. 'Northampton' was on the news and it dawned on me that it's kind of like a Southampton, but up North. I knew Southampton is south of the UK, so I went on google maps for Northampton. Kind of deflated and cheated, as it's more midlands, than 'proper North'. So why call it NORTHampton? You can see why it freaks me out. The other month the father in-law explained Norfolk and Suffolk to me, with Norfolk being higher as it's got 'Norf' in its name. Yet there's nothing 'Norf' about it, given it's right over the SEast! And who's to know 'Suff' in Suffolk is supposed to mean South (if it is)!

Our kid's school was closed, safety issues FFS. WTF, insurance issues probably, risk assement no doubt. WTF is wrong with putting yer wellies on and getting some education? If I find out that any of those stranded teachers who couldn't get into school are out and about sledging I may seriously get off on one...............

It’s got worse over last year or two for now due to reasons of cost cutting, the BBC considers Northampton and other midlands areas to be in East Anglia which it evidently isn’t. No one in EA is remotely interested in Northants or Bedford or Corby local news.
For anyone who doesn’t know where EA is, it is in the east, as far east as you can get without wet feet.

And yes, North folk is Norfolk and South folk is Suffolk. It’s a fact.

Depending on airline and config, that could still be economy.......Emirates for example, ditched the 1st Class on several of their A380s in favour of higher passenger load, converted the shower into a very, very big toilet and sink. Most comfortable for taking care of ones elimination needs at 37,000 feet.

I'd still rather fly the A380 than the 787s that all the airlines seem to be embracing....lower operational cost, but seems to be at expense of passenger space - less leg room, narrower seats from all the seats maps and experience of some colleagues who've flown both.

More than a Million Pallets of Unusable Covid PPE Costing £8 Billion have So Far Gone up in Smoke


The PPE scandal shows no sign of ending after it was revealed this week that over one million pallets laden with unusable Covid protective equipment have so far been destroyed by the Government.


In response to a Parliamentary questions from Reform MP Rupert Lowe, Health Minister Karin Smith confirmed: “As of the end of September 2024, approximately 1,049,700 pallets, or 23%, of personal protective equipment (PPE) has been recycled through energy from waste and recycling. The original cost to purchase was £8.644 billion, and all stock categorised as excess has no residual market value”.


The purchase price of the unused PPE that has now been destroyed to date sits at £8.6 billion. In total the Department of Health and Social Care has written off nearly £14.9 billion spent on unusable medical goods it procured during the pandemic.


During the pandemic the last Conservative government established a so-called VIP lane that prioritised offers to supply PPE from companies with access to political connections.


Billions of pounds were paid to suppliers who were referred down this procurement route – often with disastrous consequences.


An investigation revealed that 50% of companies who were awarded PPE contracts via the VIP lane supplied goods that were not fit for purpose and were subsequently labelled “do not supply”. An astonishing 475 million items of personal protective equipment (PPE) worth over £1 billion fell into this category.


These figures include 25 million gowns supplied by PPE Medpro that cost the taxpayer £124 million. The firm were referred to the VIP lane after Barone Mone repeatedly lobbied Government ministers. The controversial deal is the subject of an ongoing legal case with the DHSC as well as a criminal investigation by the National Crime Agency.


The scale of the waste is staggering. If you were to line up 1,049,700 pallets of PPE that have been destroyed to date it would stretch for 780 miles – For comparison the distance between London and John o’Groats in Scotland is 692 miles.


About £1.4bn worth of PPE was destroyed or written off from just one contract – the deal with Full Support Healthcare has been labelled the most wasteful government deal of the pandemic.


Despite the PPE being manufactured to the proper standard, officials have confirmed some 749 million items have already been incinerated, and a further 825 million were earmarked for further incineration or recycling.



Lets hope the inquiry led by Baroness Hallett can force some accountability and transparency over the decisions that resulted in £8.6 billion worth of PPE literally going up in smoke

Centralised govt procurement with vested interested party lines.....what could possibly go wrong?
Coursez there's so many layers of middle management now in the NHS, there's very few staff seemingly performing patient care activities.....such as the community nursing team my other half used to work for....7/8 nurses.......all "encouraged" to do masters thesis or similar, and gradually moved away from patient facing activity to desk jobs. Spoke with one of the original seniors, about to retire....my wife's peers (5 of them) are now doing the work of one senior....but all being paid a senior salary. They do one patient shift a week, but never assign themselves to nights, but will occasionally do a weekend for the enhanced pay. Leaves 3 who didn't bite for the promotion route carrying the case load and increased use of agency staff at 3x the cost.....trebles all round at the next stakeholder meetings.....
