any of you guys change your gears manually ? i do occasionally but get bored and put it back into auto.

Never used mine on the Elgrand but have paddle shifts on one of my other cars which I have used ccasionally but find that the car is faster in auto so just stick to auto now.

I occasionally use them for engine breaking and overtaking, but the auto box is fast enough at changing that I've otherwise not felt the need for manual.

I'm also put off changing gears manually because Nissan recommended, in the manual (ha), not to use manual mode much due to the increased wear on the gearbox (spoil sports)

Had to use them coming down mountains in Austria as van was trying to run away and brakes decided to take time off.Was good when l got use to what gear ratio was.

The other one is probably a dct box they are completely different to the Nissan which is a conventional slush box, most cars with flappy paddles are manual boxes with electronic control on the clutches, they sap less power from the engine and shift much quicker than you can.

I've just learned something. I have never heard of an automatic being called a slush box (been driving 35 ish years) but it turns out to be a fairly common term. I've led a sheltered life!

Think it comes from the lazy way they work and the oft imprecise changes.

I love them.

The zf8 speed is so good it's used by many manufacturers who are going back to torque converters and slush autos albeit with very precise control.
