What have you done to your Elgrand today?

It's a really easy job as long as you can get the old ones off. First time I did it was a bastard.

I also replaced the split rubber gator and bump stop on one strut. Second time I've had to do that job, lot of work for such a simple thing

One year it cost me £70 for garage just to change drop link, for MOT, didn't have the time to take away and return ( spare sitting in bus) now I change them for ever MOT ( yes ever year)
But for a few quid not worth the fail.
That's for a pair

2 new Bridgestone tyres for the rear and a fresh mot 😊
Suffered from the infamous inner tyre side wall wear. Presumably slightly due to running it lowered. Will be keeping a closer eye on this in the future, as not far off from disaster this time.

At that price I'd be happy to change them every year?

My wife’s Elgrand failed the mot 😭 lucky the garage I use are bang on and replaced the front cats for me as they knew it didn’t have rear cats. £450 lighter and now it has passed and same day turn around. He did say the front pads and discs are on the limit so I’ll bring it back soon to replace

£450 for front cats, that would be supply and fit!! I think that a great price
Is this the new MOT standard on exhaust emissions!!

Insanely reasonable 🤯Most people don’t even want to attempt to remove the front ones.
They're like tradesmen, lazy arseholes. Only want the easy jobs. Any mechanic worth his salt would take it on. Hard to find though. My neighbour is a mechanic, he MOT's my car and said he'll work on a JDM. He also said someone keeps bringing in a T6 like a fucking yo-yo for issues to fix.

Great post. Very true 👍

Yeah great post. We’re not all lazy actually. Some of us work damned hard to provide for our families

Hence the worth his salt, good ones don't shy away from anything that may pose a challenge. All those on here are obviously of that category or else you wouldn't be JDM obsessed 👍

Same day turnaround including failing the mot, replacing front cat sections and passing the retest seems very unlikely and would beg the question why did the garage keep Elgrand front cat sections on the shelf. But you probably mean it failed the MOT, a few days went by while they sourced the parts, then they swapped front cat sections and did the retest the same day? Still very cheap because if they replaced with original spec cats where did they get them from and how much did they cost and if they replaced them with stainless ones they would have cost more just for the parts. Hopefully a garage you trust and you can see by looking that they've changed front cat sections.

Is it possible they cut and spliced new cats in ( steel?), I would imagine it’s possible to cut originals out , add a little down pipe material and weld in new cats from there .
Once old cats are out there should be room ?
I agree , original out and original replacements in would be a lot to do for that price and in a day

It's posible like you say but that would still be supplying new/replacement cats and would be even more work, making it even better value for money...?

Less work if you don’t have to strip down to get to manifold flange bolts.
I was trying to work out of leaving things in there was room to cut out the old and replace with the slimmer steel cats ?
Bargain anyway lol
